Personality:-/+ Perfectionist ~ Vile is proud of their work, to the point that they can hole up for unhealthy amounts of time and refuse to let anyone see results until they’re sure it’s up to their standards. The plus side is that they do often produce some fine results and earn their keep.
+ Clever ~ Flying much in the face of the stupid hyena sterotype (ugh, specisim), Vile is quite clever. They’re not reckless, and know when to wait, and when to bite their tongue. They’re also skilled in certain fields of science, namely geology -- as well as knowledgeable of their home clan’s dark magic, coming from a unique standpoint of seeing science and magic as equally valid… even, two sides of the same coin?
- Clingy ~Vile neither hides nor is ashamed of their romantic interest in Robotnik. Their loyalty, at least, is nigh unquestionable. This tends to a positive for the overlander and his other loyals, given Vile will go to great lengths to assure the wellbeing of their allies, though it takes its toll on Vile’s mental health. This probably isn’t a healthy relationship.
+ Humorous ~ It’s not funny, Ed.
- Damaged ~ You don’t end up among villainous ilk without some kind of a tragedy (usually). Years of speciesism has at first ruined Vile’s self esteem. However, employment in Robotropolis has actually managed to pull Vile up, now seeing themselves as useful. Now, Vile is utterly hardened to any attempts at “help” from other Mobians, having been burned so many times before for their lineage and magic practices. They feel more at ease among the outcasts who tend to hang around the despot’s city.
?? """Quirky""" ~ They really like rocks. And spellcasting. And Robotnik. Like, a lot. Bones and other animal body parts feature in their accessories on top of things like crystals and herbs. Their quarters is full of weird and possibly concerning items.
Background:Vile began life as Mchawi in an isolated hyena clan (not the Nasty Hyenas but we’ll circle around to that), reared by their single mother, Laana, one of the clan’s most talented dark magic practitioners. Their mother gave Vile a good start by teaching them everything she knew of the dark arts. This was really for the better, because Vile’s birth clan was fated for destruction. Local superstition cast a wary eye toward the clan and their dark magic. As well, most hyena clans tended to be conflated with the Nasty Hyenas, who were known to be dangerous. In teenagehood, Vile’s clan was attacked and burned to the ground in the night. Several of their clan were killed, though Vile to this day is unaware if Laana was among the casualties. Upon being coaxed to flee for their lives by their mother, Vile briefly took to a nomadic lifestyle.
Eventually, into adulthood, Vile was accepted among the Acorn Kingdom’s royal scientists, specifically in the geology division where they were put to work investigated something very interesting you may know, mmm?? (Chaos Emeralds. It’s Chaos Emeralds). During their time amongst the royal court, they had the occional (brief and stilted with formal procedure) run in with the then-current Warlord, Julian -- who seemed to take keen interest in their study of the Chaos Emeralds, and likewise, Vile took keen interest in… Julian. Though their encounters before the coup were few and far between.
Speaking of the coup, Vile was away from Mobotropolis during the time, still on their mission to study Chaos Emeralds. Once news of the war hit the general public, Vile was ripped away from their work, entirely against their wishes mind, and force drafted into the Savanna Freedom Fighters. At that, Vile was confined to being low-ranking because speciesism and could not advance the ranks even if they wanted. Frequently, the witch found themselves griefed by lion members of the devision mostly based around the legend of hyenas and lions having been at war since the dawn of time. The more “heroic” (read: self-righteous) of the team also took issue with Vile’s use of the Dark Arts.
Needless to say, it wasn’t a massive jump for Vile to be convinced to take the side of evil, least of all having been previously swayed by the good Doctor's... "charms". Vile was able to get a foot in the door by appealing to Snively when their Freedom Fighters abandoned them and they were captured. Vile promised Snively relief from some of the work he deemed was "below him" if they were allowed to swear loyalty to Robotnik. While granted audience with Robotnik himself, it took a fair amount of convincing to allow a Mobian among his ranks. Chiefly, Robotnik immediately put Vile to use as a spy to test their loyalty -- they would lead many an unsuspecting Freedom Fighter to their doom. Their own division was the first to go. How could you tell them they were wrong?
More currently, Vile preforms healing rituals for their villainous comrades which, frankly, they often needed due to their run-ins with Sonic the Hedgehog, and is a chief healer. Though their skills in dark magic allows them to do more; they still occasionally act as a sabotager -- tricking the unsuspecting into signing contacts that would grant their wishes, under the caveat of a nigh impossible task. Using their “wish granting” Vile now owns several other Mobians’s immortal souls. Vile is also frequently head of various magic crystal finding missions, granted use of a Cheetah Drone to help with their scouting missions. At Robotropolis, they frequently offer their services of black magic to their overlord, hoping to further gain his favor.
Abilities & Drawbacks:Crystal Healing ~ Vile’s main function within the empire is to act as a healer. They chiefly do this through use of special magic crystals. The most powerful crystal in their possession is worn around their neck, and is able to heal an unlimited amount of minor to moderate wounds, although a complete heal of severe to deadly wounds is limited to only two individuals per 24 hours. They keep at least a dozen other crystals of lesser power on their person. As energy is channeled through the crystals rather than from Vile, they have far less risk of draining themselves than do magic users whose abilities are inherent.
Spell Casting ~ Given proper ingredients, Vile is able to cast a variety of magic spells. Rather than having magic inherent, they channel it through the use of magic objects. The stronger spells require preparation (see, elixir crafting). Most of their expertise lies in various curses, contact with the dead, and the animation of corpses (you know, dark magic stuff). They can also conjure soul contracts, which grant a transformation onto the recipient under the caveat of performing a task within an amount of time; failure to make good on the agreement will result in Vile owning the signer’s soul. Actual Disney witch.
Elixir Crafting ~ Elixirs can be used in place of spells and are typically granted by Vile so that it’s recipient can get magic affects without Vile necessarily having to be present. Vile is also able to use pre-mixed elixirs to cast advanced spells whenever it would be inconvenient to assemble ingredients on the spot. They tend to carry at least a dozen active bottles on them at one time, typically mixes that make it easy for them to escape trouble.
Crystal Seeking ~ Given most of their magic revolves around the use of crystals, Vile has honed an innate ability to sense magic objects nearby. One of their few inherent powers, Vile can detect concentrations of magic from some distance, much more so when entering a meditative state. They are able to detect powerful individuals before seeing them and are especially sensitive to Chaos energy, sometimes to the point of becoming overstimulated.
Hyena Jaws ~ 100% would crush your bones.
