Doubles noted Sonic’s very visible confusion. That being said he couldn’t blame the guy all too much—  did he perhaps arrive late to this scene? ”I see you’re confused there Sonic— its a time-travel situation, but worry not, I’ll explain when the situation is less awkward or dangerous.” Doubles subtly tilted his head towards the tall white tiger and then to Sonic. ”For now my good man, can you to keep an eye out for any funny business from anyone? I trust you, I know you’re more than fast enough.” Doubles nodded to Sonic, full confidence in him.

All of a sudden, a frozen orb cracked under pressure and ceased holding a solid form. Caroline’s painful reaction urged Doubles to stay closer to her despite the jolt— should she need any support to stay conscious or standing. Even so, there was this ‘memory’ to examine. Connecting the dots from what he knew so far, Doubles did not place blame on either Robin or Caroline as much as they both thought it was on them. It pained Doubles to see such promising youths in such a state of woe. Still, they both wanted to do what was right in the end; save and cure Sapphire… Nothing worth doing was always easy, and their goal was more than worth accomplishing.

Now, Doubles had practically put two and two together already, but the content of the memory further proved his suspicions. As far as he could tell, Sonic was Sapphire and Caroline’s father, the question was who could the mother be? Earlier, Caroline’s very specific reaction to the mysterious tiger within the group was certainly worth noting.

The memory ended with another jolt back into reality, and already Doubles was reassessing and recalculating everything. He felt pride when Caroline stood her ground and took responsibility, looking to the task ahead rather than contributing to any fuss.

To Caroline’s uncertainty, Doubles had a few words. ”Those times are not this time. You won’t know how far you’ve likely come if you don’t try… Besides, no time like the present, right?” He added with a chuckle. Situational puns were awesome, and a little bit of morale boosting humor never hurt. There was still the matter of his admittedly high stakes plan to explain. ”Of course I’m sure.” The declaration came without even a moment of hesitation, he noted the uncertainty in Caroline and an odd conviction in the Orbians. The two were connected, so were they trying show something? If these Orbians were connected to Caroline’s power, did they believe in what Doubles had said? Well, there was only one way to find out. ”I wouldn’t have come this far to save lives if I wasn’t sure.”

Caroline’s reaction to Doubles’ little tomfoolery regarding his current appearance gave him more of a pep in his step as he walked forward. If she now knew without a doubt who he was, then the Orbians would too, as would her other side. Weirdly enough, Doubles felt as though said other side was putting faith in im earlier. Was that still true? If it was, he planned to deliver on his promise.
Passing Sakura as he made his way forward, Doubles caught her suggestion and paused. He had an interesting rebuttal to give too. ”There will be no need. If they are connected to Caroline in the way I am thinking, speak to them as if you were speaking to her— as a friend.” Doubles gave Sakura a single encouraging fingergun gesture and continued onward.

”That is true is it not? The connection you have to Caroline?” Doubles openly asked to the remaining Orbians. ”Then you know well enough how much she in her entirety wants to save her sister. I know you do. In a moment of unspeakable sadness and grief, when she saw the condition her sister was in… You felt it, didn’t you? That is why you are lashing out so readily. That raw emotion is what gave you form, correct? That shock, guilt and stress...” He paused for a moment, taking a deep breath. Is not something I will allow you to suffer alone! Though it was a message to the Orbians that were part of Caroline, it was a message to Caroline as well, both expressions of her being. ”You know that too. Because you know exactly who I’m going to be in the future.”

Doubles, for some reason, wasn't too surprised by Caroline's answer. "Mhm, I see." He nodded. "The Tornado MK.IV, a highly refined efficient machine built for utmost precision and aerodynamics. Honestly, one of Tails' greatest crafts, I do agree." This time, he was fully aware that he was 'nerding out' so to speak, it really showed how much he respected a fellow inventor and the idea of inventing things for the improvement of life as opposed to less morally sound means— like that of Eggman and any similarly minded villain.

Sonic and Karahl were gone for a week? Interesting, from Doubles' perspective. "Okay, and is that starting today or from yesterday?" Apparently Caroline thought she upset Tails somehow. Doubles nodded and respectfully remained silent, allowing Caroline to explain should she choose to. "Well, I'm guessing you apologized for whatever happened. I've known him for quite a while, Tails is a very understanding man. But, if you're still not sure, would you like some advice on it?" Doubles asked, willing to help— again only if Caroline decided she needed it.

Chuckling at Sapphire's eagerness, Doubles couldn't help but smile. "Well, you should tell him to watch out then huh?" Soon enough it seemed she had burned out of all her energy and fell asleep. If she took after her father as much as Doubles thought; this wasn't a surprise at all. Looking to Caroline, Doubles gave a small nod. "Of course its okay. Do you have any preferences for snacks?" Even Caroline was attentive to Sapphire's needs, which was very good of her as a sibling. "I see, and is there any food that helps her the most? Chilidogs, maybe?" Doubles moved over to the panel at the wall and pressed a few buttons. The lights on the floor below the trio gave off a soft glow as a unique kind of elevator formed around them. The wall with the panel on it shifted aside, showing a fancy looking side-rail system that the fancy elevator began to move down, with the wall closing behind as it went along.

In less than a minute, it arrived at a similar sort of station, but there were more doorways to go through from here. "Here, the kitchen is through the door on the right, follow me~"

"Ohp-" Doubles payed some extra attention to Sapphire, just to see if she was okay with standing up. He gave the little one a thumbs up. "Everything okay?" Of course, Caroline was processing Doubles' earlier request to not be so formal, and she took it well after a moment. He nodded in return to let Caroline know he heard her answer.

"Do you have a favorite thing from what Tails has made?" Doubles asked as the trio moved along to get out of the way. He chuckled, finding pride in Sapphire's efforts to pronounce words to the best of her ability. It seemed to remind him of something, seeing these two siblings. Taking a firm yet sensitive hold on Caroline's  and Sapphire's hands to guide them. Still taking into account their heights in comparison, Doubles didn't go any faster than they could. Of course, he also noted some important factors; one being that Sapphire very clearly took after her father besides being blue— it was almost as if this wasn't a surprise. Caroline on the other hand seemed curious about going any-which way at the moment, which was fair enough; Doubles could empathize with that since he had a curious nature too. "Mhm, that is correct, Knuckles has a very important job." Doubles nodded, knowing full well the gravity of guarding the Master Emerald. "I find it easier to focus on work out here. But there is something very important to me on this island— its nothing like what Knuckles is guarding, but.... Hmm, maybe I can show you it another time? Its quite far from here and I'm not sure when your parents will be done with what they're doing." Or how long Tails needed to take a rest for since he looked rather frazzled, either or.

The further comparison didn't go unnoticed either, Doubles smiled at the girls. "That is very kind of you to say too. Maybe you two are like Knuckles as well?" He said, mostly serious but with a very slight amount of playfulness given he was taking care of two children... Huh, odd, it looked like he was used to that somehow? After Sapphire gave Caroline a giggle-fit, she had a request of her own. "Oh, of course, of course." Doubles said happily, stepping down so that he could easily let Sapphire into his free arm as per her request. After making sure Sapphire was safe, Doubles glanced over to Caroline. "Oh, that's perfectly normal, He looked to Sapphire with a reassuring expression, and following Caroline's vote of confidence he added; "When I was your age, I had trouble with 'S' sounds. It is as your sister said, you'll get the hang of it."

With that said, the group had now finally exited the hangar area/complex through an automatic door. In the next area was a short corridor with a small area at the end. There was a light on the floor that had three rings around it, next to a panel at the wall. Doubles thought for a moment then looked to the girls and asked. "Are you two hungry at all? We could get some snacks before we go and have a look at some of the stuff I've made if you'd like?"

"Indeed, and I greatly appreciate the communication." Doubles smiled before showing some concern. "Ahh yes, I shall not keep you then." He nodded to tails, understanding the fox's duty to Robin as an adoptive father figure ever since the day he was found.

Doubles was very patient with Caroline, understanding why she would be acting so shy. When she smiled however, so did he, showing her it was okay to just be herself. He was rather glad that she was into the idea of little gold stars and such... Though to be fair he was talking to a six year old, so everything more or less made sense as to her responses to certain things. At least she was being a little bit more confident, little steps were still steps of course. Doubles chuckled, appreciative of her continued politeness. "Oh, there's no need to be so formal with me. Just call me Doubles, yeah?" Even if she was a kid, Doubles wasn't exactly her teacher or anything... Well, just yet, anyway.

Caroline was even excited to have a look at some of Doubles' inventions, now that was a welcome surprise! "Then it will be my pleasure to show you two some stuff." Doubles paused, tapping his chin, perhaps thinking of what to go with first. Seeing Caroline and Sapphire interact got another smile from Doubles. 'Now that is a good pair of siblings, for sure.' He thought. Doubles gave Tails a thumbs up. "Of course, I'll let you know. You have no need to worry." He returned a polite nod as well. "You take care now okay? Say hi to the others for me, would you?"

For the moment, Doubles gestured for Caroline and Sapphire to follow him to quickly get up to the balcony so that Tails could properly disembark from the hangar as soon as he was ready. "Come along girls, it'll be easy to wave to your Uncle Tails up on the balcony there~" Doubles said with a smile. When Tails finally left, Caroline seemed to have a question. "Oh? Of course, go ahead." Doubles tilted his head slightly, wondering what exactly she could ask, and Doubles found the question rather interesting, smiling to Caroline for asking. "Oo, Interesting. I'm curious to know what you mean exactly?" Holding out a hand for the two girls to follow him once more to the corridor he entered the hangar from. Doubles walked slowly to account for their little legs, and always kept his attention on them so that they would not wander and get lost. "In a way I suppose I am similar to Knuckles too, but I'll be able to give you a better answer if you explain what you're thinking a little more."

Doubles nodded ”Of course, that is certainly worth mentioning. May I suggest something?” He waited so that both he and Caroline can assess the situation first before continuing. ”I am sure that you as a whole can exercise some manner of control over these rogue manifestations, at least to somewhat pacify them, if nothing further. I have full confidence in all that you are, but I shall do what I can regardless.”

Letting Robin come over to give Caroline a much needed positive greeting, Doubles noted her reaction to not only Sonic, but the out of place white tiger. Several theories brewed up and were filed away for later, since this wasn’t the time to bring them up. Thankfully the argument between Robin and Sonic didn’t escalate, it wasn’t the time for something like that either. Doubles nodded to Ty, appreciative of his teamwork, and that of everyone else that made their collective plan thus far possible. Since his message was in some way stalled or garbled, Doubles made a note to re-send it as soon as the interference was removed.

Of course, Doubles analyzed the situation and actions of the others quite quickly, taking to heart the various warnings given— Ty's in particular... While this current plan could work, Doubles was quick to believe it wasn’t actually their best bet. As Caroline put it, what she felt, so too did the ‘Orbians’ and vice versa. Was that limited to simply that of the physical realm? They were created by something that wasn’t physical, they were created in the wake of an emotional outburst!

If these ‘Orbians’ were still going somewhat wild, then either they were still attached to the idea and circumstance of that event, or this was beyond simply Caroline’s uncertainty that caused them to be unruly… Perhaps her other self was uncertain as well? Testing the group in some way? Well, then Doubles need only answer the call. Thus far, Doubles theorized these entities were met with self defense and combat rather than curiosity and compassion; so he decided to try the latter, but he needed some help. ”I have an idea!” He quickly called to the others. ”Do not attack them, only immobilize them.” Given his last almost ridiculous plan working, his track record was pretty good. ”There is another way, trust me on this.”

Swiftly turning his attention to Caroline, Doubles faced her and put a reassuring hand on her shoulder. ”There is no need to hide, facing this with others at your side will help you accept yourself, power and all.” The front portion of his visor suddenly retracted into the helmet, revealing an interesting oddity, at least through what Caroline could see; Doubles had the features of two distinct species both brought together and separate at the same time—  This was visual confirmation that he was exactly who she thought he was— but that was not all. The features he had were both of a feline and canine, white and brown respectively on either side of his face. The middle of his face where the colours intersected had an interlocking zigzag right down the middle. With a wink, he said ”Remember, we are like a prism.” and his helmet visor and lower jaw segment clicked back together just as suddenly as they had opened.

Doubles turned to face the situation at hand, ready to do what needed to be done depending on how the others reacted. ”Now let’s make a rainbow.” He said with utmost confidence.

Doubles nodded to tails. "At the very least you could say you are doing something worthwhile. You are making sure your best friend's children are safe and looked after while he is otherwise occupied." Of course, Doubles understood what Tails meant. The fox looked rather frazzled and not in the usual 'eureka' followed by an invention of his going boom kind of way. Doubles waved away Tails' concerns. "It's fine. I made sure that I wasn't doing anything that needed my full undivided attention while waiting."

With a frown, Doubles also shook his head for the same reason as Tails. "You haven't done anything rude or nasty since you got here, so you're not bad at all, I say. In fact, you are being very nice."  Doubles held a hand up in a rather scholarly manner to draw attention calmly, offering a reassuring smile to Caroline as well. "You get gold stars for behaving for your uncle Tails... Erm, as soon as I can find you some gold stars, aheh~" He held a hand at the back of his neck with a chuckle for a moment. Talk of other children being mean was unsettling however. "Those other kids just don't know you well enough yet, they'll see soon that you're a gifted young lady of many talents, not someone who is bad." Seemingly noticing he was sort of rambling, Doubles cleared his throat and bowed again showing that he was apologetic for going off on a tangent.

"No, no, I am not a doctor. Similar to your uncle Tails here, I make and build some fun things that make life easier. Since you and your sister have been so well behaved since you got here. I think you both deserve a reward. Would you like to have a look at some of the things I've made?" Taking Caroline's questioning seriously, Doubles spoke in a calmer and more direct manner to help ease her anxiety. "I was misunderstood when I was young too, for something I didn't choose to have. I understand how you might be feeling, but you don't have to tell me anything that you don't want to." He added, refusing to treat her like something to be 'fixed', 'analyzed' or 'figured out'. Rather, he wanted to treat her in her entirety like someone that can ask for help if she needs to.

Seeing Sapphire want to go to Caroline was heartwarming. "Awwwh..." Doubles nodded to Tails. "I think you should let her give her big sis a hug, yeah?" He said with a smile. "I think I can handle the rest from here."

Less than a minute later, Doubles himself had arrived from above! ”Aha, there you two are. Hello, hello~!” he called, swerving around plantlife and finally coming to a soft landing a few paces away, he greeted the girls with a bow. ”I trust that you two are well?”  Right now, he was wearing his full high tech suit and helmet once again, highly optimized and capable of far outshining what he used to have way back when. ”By the way, that there warp portal was very nicely done, Caroline. You're synchronizing rather well, I'd say.” Doubles added with a nod.

Noting the curiosity in regards to the long overgrown mural, Doubles tilted his head, intrigued. ”Ahhh, Sapphire, I don't believe you've actually seen this before, am I right?” With a quick look to Caroline, Doubles then gazed upon the entirety of the mural. ”I assume your sister has at least mentioned it... Well, you see, the area around this mural is quite special. As I'm sure you know— In my younger days I made a great discovery here; I ended up understanding something a lot more.” With a bit of a cheeky chuckle, Doubles straightened out his posture with his hands held behind his back.

”Now, I do intend on revealing why exactly; but I also want to make the fifteenth anniversary of my tutelage and academic help that much more special and reveal it in full then. I will, however, say this—” Doubles brought a hand in front of himself and held a finger up for attention, and to put emphasis on what he was about to say. ”It is related to my research on Meta-Mobian abilities, you see these images here?” He stepped aside, gesturing to the gathering swirls of colours that each had points where they were most pronounced, with vague somewhat faded figures behind them... Maybe they were familiar on closer inspection? ”Each of these represent a power.” Doubles was quite proud of this and it showed in his voice, it was clear he was in some way fighting not to completely explain everything. He did say he wanted to make the 15th year celebration of his teachings special after all. ”Does that satisfy your curiosities for the moment? What do you think about the artwork itself? We have time before we move on.”

As far as the oddly well timed occurrences went, everything was smooth sailing... Or flying, as the case may be. When Tails landed his aircraft, disembarking with the two younglings easily reeled in and kept in check, as a good uncle should very much be capable of doing— one last well timed thing happened, up on the hangar balcony an automatic sliding door opened, revealing a Mobian clad in mostly greys and whites. They were wearing a high tech mesh under suit with a simple helmet with a teal visor, a pristine white lab coat, black chrome wrist-ringed gloves and boots of the same aesthetic as the gloves. Only their mouth was reasonably visible, and it was uncertain as to what species it belonged to since there was nothing else to indicate anything of the sort.

The individual waved to Tails with a great amount of energy and excitement. "Welcome, welcome, hello there!" He chimed, deftly hoisting himself over the balcony railing, landing perfectly on the hangar floor below. Nice.

Readjusting his collar, he approached the trio and gave a polite bow. "Good day to you Tails, I trust you are doing well?" Now that the man was closer, his eyes would be somewhat visible through the tint of the visor. They were friendly eyes, but not just that; they were curious and rather wise looking too! "Goodness, it seems much has changed in two years or so—" He smiled to Caroline, and then to Sapphire if she was able to see him. "Hey there, Caroline, Sapphire. I don't know if you remember me all too well, but your parents and of course your uncle Tails here know me as Doubles." He said with a... Dorky thumbs up and an equally dorky grin. Amazing. "So, how are you all doing today?" He asked the girls, patiently awaiting any form of response.

Sonic's Shack / Re: Laser Sightseeing [PM & Ask to join]
« on: December 20, 2018, 09:19:32 pm »
"Indeed, I do as I must." Doubles nodded, in silent agreement that there was indeed far too much unchecked power potentially laying around for the exact wrong person to come across. While to some people only one notable example would come to mind, Doubles thought broader than that... There were more threats in this world than Eggman or his machinations. For the most part Sonic had that handled, leaving the less overt and cocky villains to work within the chaos— at least until they were thwarted by other heroes.

The good ol' Wisps had grown too, they became more ready to fight back against oppression. That being said, the Chaos and Sol emeralds, Time Stones and World Rings all had some mysterious 'balanced' or 'good' 'will' of their own, and so far anyone thinking to use them for selfish and vile deeds got hit hard with karma rather quickly.

Same couldn't exactly be said about the Forbidden Zone and the things that remained there in the darkness of that land; a nearly lifeless place on the planet, said to contain remnants of ancient technology and something to do with an old wizard as well. Sonic did give an interesting offer though and Doubles took a moment to consider the possibilities. "I have no doubts that I can re-purpose whatever might be laying around there, it depends entirely on what you end up finding. Admittedly I have been there before— it was during the recent war against the Egghead— but I was not there long enough to map anything out properly. Your prior knowledge would be a great help in this regard." Doubles added with a nod.

Just as the Robin Orbian was struck down by a ludicrous amount of damage; off to the side of the road and just near the corner of another street, a silent swirl in the fabric of reality began to turn and warp existence, seconds later two figures emerged from it; Doubles and Caroline had returned safely just as the former had promised!

Doubles was immediately analyzing the situation who was there, their body language and general condition on a glance and their relation to the last moment of explosive energy carnage that Doubles could catch. With Caroline’s presence and contact he somehow could perceive a few extra things beyond what he normally would be able to. Now that the two were there, he could sense the current whereabouts of the Orbians in relation to himself. He already knew their numbers at creation, and now he could only seem to pick up on two that remained as well as their trajectory… They were headed this way now, and at a reasonable speed too. He looked to Caroline and decided to move forward, allowing her to accompany as she saw fit. ”I am going to assume you can sense them? Only two remain in tact correct?” He quietly asked Caroline as they moved towards the group. Doubles initially looked to those he had left to this task some short time ago. ”I thank you for your cooperation earlier, as you can see we have returned.”

Now, Doubles looked to the three new variables; among them Sonic himself. There was tension here between a few of these people, but nothing unmanageable. ”Take heed, there is no time to rest; the remaining two orb-like entities are soon to converge on our current location.” He pointed in two different directions; east and northwest. ”From those two directions at an approximate speed of one hundred kilometers per hour. Look alive.”

For the moments of reprieve that did exist, Doubles had received a message on his phone, which automatically redirected to a command set in his helmet where he could see the message after it went through a quick security scan. From there, he could quickly use ocular commands to swiftly send some sort of reply to his good friend that he met earlier today. ['Here' as in Tails’ Workshop? Good, keep her safe, but stall the De-Roboticizer; she has a volatile Chaos Emerald induced condition. Without Caroline there to help with saving her, the De-Roboticizer will kill her. Warn the team on your side. I trust you to do this.]

Everywhere Else / Re: [Arc: Middle] Corrupted Cat

Doubles noted Caroline’s expression harden. ”Make no mistake; I know what guilt is, how it chews away at one’s very soul. I did not live a life without accident, without fault, without a mishap...” He trailed off, it didn’t take a genius to theorize or downright realize that he too once was in a situation of a similar magnitude. ”Trust me, I know what it is like to wish you did better for someone else that you care about. You are not alone.” He gave a nod, it was not the time for a pity party when multiple lives were in danger. It didn’t need to be said really, the two of them were clever enough to conduct themselves accordingly.

As for risk taking? Well… ”Oh, yes, of course. It was unbelievably foolish and ridiculously dangerous, idiotic, stupid, moronic, cataclysmically boneheaded, et cetera ad infinitum, ” Doubles didn’t sound proud of it, but he sounded surprised— as though he didn’t know people would not think he knew exactly what he was doing. ”Trust me, I know… However, The more you know, the less you understand. Now, I know quite a lot, but I much prefer understanding.” This, this was something he said with the most confidence he had ever said anything so far; it wasn’t something so simple, it was easily something that he grew up with. ”That is why I do what I do. It is why I did what I did. I want to understand what I see, the people that I meet. Knowing is one thing, but understanding is a level far beyond knowing.” In fact, it sounded much like a foundation for teaching too…

Doubles chuckled slightly. ”Coincidence? Maybe, but a fortunate one? I’d say so.” Oof, he read the situation like a book. This sort of thing happened when one spoke from experience.  ”We’re more alike than most might think, aheh~.” As for putting it into someone, Doubles did have an idea brewing.  ”Does it have to be someone? Can it not be something? He tapped the side of his helmet.  ”You should know at least something about anything of my creation, correct?” As an example, Doubles retrieved something from his utility belt. It was one of the Go-On Batteries; the one that housed Cube energy; a dark blue tube-like bottle-ish trinket. ”I have blanks of these on hand, ones that have not been used. I can always make more.” Caroline would know that these were hard to make, difficult to find materials for; and took time to make.  ”I am willing to deal with the setback of losing one if it means we can avoid a living sacrifice.”

Putting trinket away, and put a reassuring hand on Caroline’s shoulder. ”Perhaps the issue here is that you and your abilities lack some trust in each other?” He mused, first allowing Caroline to reinforce her responsibilities as a sister to herself. ”See, you both already agree on something. Sure, it spoke in harsh tones and implied some less than stellar things. However, the most prevalent thing I heard your other side wanted to prove; was that it could save your sister. I want to give you both that chance to do so together, to try and trust each other as you seemingly want the same thing, that is all. It’s all about teamwork, remember?”

Of course, Doubles allowed Caroline to heal the both of them; he knew what to expect from a healing ability nigh immediately. ”See? You’re working together already. Though a small and simple task, you have still managed healing quite easily.” He said proudly. ”Let’s be off.” Thanks to Caroline’s healing as well as any boosted support she saw fit to give; the two once more were enveloped in a strange haze that relocated them elsewhere and they were gone…!

The strange island was left alone again, at least for now.

Doubles gave Caroline proper space for her to vent her frustrations out of respect, while also making himself readily available should she need support of any kind. He listened to what she had to say; though her definition of what a ‘monster’ was, had merit and was technically correct; Doubles would have gone into more detail personally, but now was not the time for lectures like that and he decided to not bring that up.

He saw a moment to speak, but it was quickly overtaken by another (thankfully smaller by comparison) emotional outburst from Caroline. Doubles did not twitch or reel back, he kept his cool and instead examined what exactly Caroline had shown him just now, albeit accidentally. As he normally would; Doubles analyzed the situation that was put on display; he recognized the individuals within, the scenery and general location and time given the positioning of the stars and constellations. The abandoned and neglected case, it didn’t take a genius to figure out what the glowing colours were coming from; those exact colours pointed only to one set of artifacts; the Chaos Emeralds. When the case was dropped and one or two rolled out, that sealed the deal on the conclusion Doubles had come to.

Looking to Caroline, Doubles answered her question without hesitation. ”I do not like repeating myself. I do not see any monsters here. I see an adverse reaction to the presence of Chaos imbued artifacts that resulted in a tragic scenario. One that nobody present in what you are showing me can possibly be at fault for.” He asserted confidently, and without doubt.

”In my opinion, solely being certain of your faults is the same if not similar to being uncertain of your strengths. You are not awful and dangerous, far from it.” Evidently, Caroline was quite surprised that Doubles would say that she was worth helping. He could however understand the confusion, not many that had not appropriately been shown kindness really understood it. ”Worth helping, indeed, that is what I said.” Doubles nodded, to make sure his statement was clear. ”I need no reason to help someone that needs help if I can be the one to give it. I am no stranger to risks. For instance, science alone is all about taking leaps of faith.” Spoken like a true scientist, to boot. ”Make no mistake, I knew the risks that came with my plan, I accepted them, that is why I even got this far.” Only a few people would even consider going above and beyond for others, luckily Doubles was among them.

Allowing Caroline to assess the situation was important, she had a point of view Doubles did not, their information collected together would prove immensely useful for their mission. Doubles nodded in understanding, gesturing for Caroline to continue until she finished explaining that she needed to get rid of the orbs first to regain better control. One thing that piqued his interest was a name, and he decided to interject. ”Oh? I wouldn’t say that I am disappointed.” He chuckled, a lot of things began to make sense now. ”Well, what is your idea, first of all? Now, I’ll let you explain, but if it has anything to do with self sacrifice... I can guarantee that everyone else would want you to bin it, myself included.”

As for forgiveness on behalf of Caroline’s other self? Easy. ”Pay it no mind, I forgive you as a whole. What I would like to do; is give you— all parts of you— a chance to prove what was claimed possible. Saving lives in any way should not be a task taken lightly nor be one singular person’s duty to carry on their shoulders.” When all was said and done, the two of them had a job to do. ”That being said, messes can be cleaned up. Let’s get to doing that, shall we? I believe I can get us close to where we came from; perhaps even right where we need to be—” Doubles offered a hand to Caroline. ”If we both do our part, as a team.”

”Your blatantly contradictory behavior can be seen in a similar light. The way you act causes its own logic to crumble. You see shame in admitting to weakness of any kind. I do not. That, is what puts you behind.” Doubles shrugged, he was no stranger to being inwardly critical of his actions. ”At the very least, I aim to use use my stubbornness for truly positive means, not for myself, but for others— without question. Can you say the same of yourself, that you can act without an ulterior motive?” He shook his head in disappointment. ”You can’t. Not when you put others beneath you, belittle them and crave power regardless of if you understand what ‘power’ really is or not.”

Doubles sighed, his tone sombre and somewhat malencholic.  ”I feel sorry for beings like you. Negligence has not treated you well, you desperately wish to be understood, but make no effort to understand others in return.”

Soon after, his tone became incredibly stern and confident despite the act he was still putting on. ”Really now, it was a figure of speech.” He scoffed in return, after processing the entity’s counter first argument. ”Deny it all you want, but I’m still not defeated yet. I do not bow, I do not submit, and I certainly do not cower before you. I’m not the one concocting delusions here; I know Caroline hasn’t given up, not truly.” Doubles tilted his head slightly in amusement. Evidently the theory of time travel and the butterfly effect was absolutely lost on his current foe. Now Doubles was convinced that he needed to find out who their teacher was in order to change their lives for the better.

For both sides of Caroline. The lost young woman afraid of her power, and the power that only wanted to be recognized, accepted and loved.

That being said, the entity talked a big game, merely spoke that they had immense potential and strength. They ‘showed’ some of it off, indeed, but it made little impact, it had no direction. No real purpose beyond a prideful display.  ”Yes, yes, being self taught has done you wonders.” Doubles chirped sarcastically.

Doubles put his hands on his hips and spoke somewhat condescendingly to the entity, faking a but of pain once again. ”I doubt you would listen to her either, what’s your point? Are you going to list off all the people you won’t listen to? That’s rich.” He then scoffed, ready to make another quip. ”Since you’re so curious; yes. People have called me annoying about as many times as they have called me a genius— so, a lot. I personally don’t know what stating either trait achieves, I simply am who I am, I don’t aim to be liked by everybody.”

Mildly amused that ‘Caroline’ kept using the word coward over and over, more quick wits came into play. ”You keep using that word… Perhaps you’re projecting? Just a thought.” Doubles also found it amusing that ‘Caroline’ implied that he was alone with her there. ”You’re free to assume that we are alone.” If it wasn’t readily obvious that he was here and spiritually acting with the strengths of his teammates backing him up, then that was the entity’s loss. Doubles was intensely grateful for his allies, it was their communication and teamwork that got him this far. He knew in his heart that it would not stop here either.

”Oh, no I meant literally anyone inclusive of Caroline, but go ahead, spout more lies if you want to. You’re not putting the safety of Caroline’s sister first. You’re putting your pride first, I can see it in your eyes. What you care about now, is doing anything within your ability to prove me wrong and keep a restrictive hold on Caroline, so that she depends on you and only you. So you can use her.” The sand around Doubles became agitated, each individual grain warping around him in small wisps. ”So I’ll reiterate; If you wanted to save her sister, you already would have. But no, instead, you decided to cause carnage and claw for sole control of your shared body. Take some responsibility for your actions sometime, it's good for you.” He snarked.

Doubles shook his head once again. ”Bold of you to assume their course of action ends at de-roboticization. For a being from the future you really know surprisingly little of what is no longer the past. It stopped being the past you know the moment any of you came back here. The future is not set in stone.” The mysterious genius wiggled his finger in a disapproving manner.

Soon enough, events played right into Doubles’ hands, relieved that his plan worked and that Caroline wouldn’t come to further harm. ”Caroline will save her sister. Just you watch,. You might be surprised.” Doubles responded confidently to the entity’s final warning.

Doubles waited for Caroline to reassert herself, allowing her to do as she needed to do. He would let go of Caroline’s tail only after he made absolutely certain that it was completely her; using his continued analysis of the situation as it went on to differentiate body language and behavior.

Beyond that, he allowed Caroline to vent and speak her mind, seeing it as a matter of respect. However, after this, Doubles was rather blunt and straightforward; also as a manner of respect. He wasn’t one to sugarcoat things, after all. ”You? A monster? Tch. Please. I’m sure you are well aware of what makes a monster a monster, correct? Now, tell me; does a ‘monster’ innately treat people with respect? Does a ‘monster’ behave politely and ask for help when they are in out of their head? Does a ‘monster’ literally deny the laws of time and space, to make sure her friends and sister are safe?” Doubles knelt down to be at Caroline’s level, again in a show of respect. ”No. A monster would not do any of those things. I will be honest, I find this claim that you are a monster to be utterly preposterous. I do not see any monsters here in front of me.” Doubles gave a pause for that to sink in. ”I see a young woman in need of help. One aspect of her racked with guilt and uncertain of herself. The other writhes in anguish because it is cast aside, unloved, feared and misunderstood.” He gave another pause, hoping that more than just Caroline was listening. ”Both are worth helping.”

Doubles stood up slowly as he spoke. ”People like us, we are like a prism. Through us light refracts, and becomes a beautiful rainbow. Perhaps some prisms are rough cuts, yet to be refined, but they are prisms nonetheless. So what if the rainbow that they produce is a bit wonky? It's still a rainbow. It is still something beautiful.” He put out a closed hand towards Caroline. ”We still have work to do, we have people to save, but first…”

Opening his hand, he revealed that he was still holding onto the red tail ring. ”I believe this is yours?”

”She realizes Caroline’s potential, not yours. At current, yours is nothing yet hers is monumental, simple as that.” Doubles stated in a curt ‘as a matter of fact’ manner. ”Your arrogance is astounding.” The armored man added bluntly. If this personification of Caroline’s raw ability was as ‘in control’ as it implied, then this scenario simply wouldn’t be happening all together. Doubles kept his level head and calmness, it was perhaps his greatest advantage right now.

Doubles also had the act he was putting up to assist in his manipulation of the metaphorical chess pieces. The longer this entity was kept talking long winded nonsense, the less likely he was to get hurt and the more time his comrades in arms had to deal with whatever it is the runaway orbs were doing. ”Sorry… Aheh.” Doubles feigned weakness once more. It was almost sad how easy it was to be underestimated in this moment, but it was an advantage he needed to have. Little did his current foe know, he was more than a challenge… ”You don’t think? Oof. Tragic.” He added a bit of lighthearted snark.

”Now I can see why you don’t understand.” Doubles shook his head as ‘Caroline’ went on a rage fueled verbal temper tantrum. His stance resolute, his determination unflinching. ”I dare, and I dare easily. Whether I met you then or now, the results would be the same. I stand tall and oppose you.” He scoffed, progressively getting more unimpressed. ”Then her teacher seems to have not realized that they might have not one, but two students to teach." Existing here and now, before they were even conceptualized had likely caused a new chain of events to occur. If their teacher in the present time ever found out about this, everything would be different for them...

Seeing the interruption of the entity as rather rude, Doubles simply wiggled a finger as if to scold them. ”How rude. You’re supposed to say excuse me if you wish to enter a conversation.” When Doubles was close enough; with his tactic successful, he saw exactly what he needed to see. Caroline was certainly there. ”Oh, Caroline can definitely hear me. Why else would you be so defensive? Honestly, child's play.”

Doubles chuckled. ”Pfft, really? Even your verbal tactics are abysmally weak.” He punctuated his opinion on the matter by confidently pointing towards ‘Caroline’ ”Who said that was aimed at you to begin with?” This implied that Doubles’ goal wasn’t to cause damage, simply a different kind of impact— one that he had concrete visual evidence of working. The manifestation’s definition of cowardice was quite bland and narrow. ”Grasping at straws now? This was almost too easy.” Doubles shrugged, keeping himself at a similar distance as well, all the while analyzing the environment and his foe mathematically all at the same time. ”Perhaps it is because I’m a genuinely thoughtful and considerate person. The better question is, why do you not care?”

Noting the odd reaction, and of course hearing ‘they got one’ put Doubles’ mind at ease somewhat. He knew well enough what that meant, but he wasn’t going to play all of his cards just yet. ”Hmm? Is that all? You could save her sister? Really if you could, you would have already.” Doubles casually waved a hand dismissively. ”Caroline will be the one to save her sister. I will help her. Notice the difference? No, you likely don’t.”

Now, Doubles decided to become silent. He quickly analyzed the odd movements and change in tone of voice. Doubles would have to devote his focus to countering whatever occured at a mere moment’s notice. The entity conjured a seething green fluid, and it didn’t necessarily take a genius to realize that it was a caustic acid of some form. Double’s began concocting a plan immediately, in the same manner that he swiftly and secretly created a little rift to get the red tail ring, he began creating a silent rift up in the air behind Caroline. However, because it was a bigger rift than before, it wasn’t complete. He needed to get closer to use it. Fortunately, he could make smaller portal-armor jumps forward to do it, he just needed the right moment. On the exact nanosecond that Caroline’s eyes even began turning back to blue, Doubles was on the move through a few projected portals. He didn’t need to hear any screams, he just needed to see blue eyes. That meant Caroline would be in control, and she wouldn’t be one to resist his incoming help. It was true, she didn’t need to call for help.

After the few quick bursts forward, for the fraction of a second he was right in front of Caroline. The sun shined off of his helmet with a mild rainbow sheen coming off of it. Looking as though he was ready to jump forward and knee her, but he then disappeared, the more important portal he had set up was now useable by him, and he made the jump through it to appear behind Caroline. From there, he would make an attempt to put her in a full nelson hold while also trying to grab her tail. Whether or not that in particular worked, he was still pretty close; and he could still easily make a further attempt to suck up only the acid with his super selective selective collected portal power, and deposit it elsewhere. Either way, he put himself at risk, while the portal armor was indeed armor that he could call upon, he couldn’t exactly keep it up indefinitely. We already have saved her, haven't you been paying attention? Hah!
